At My Olive Tree we care deeply about the lives of citizens living in the nation of Israel. There are so many needs, that many times it can be overwhelming. We ask ourselves on a regular basis, “Are we doing enough?”.
There is a consistent shortage of jobs for Israeli citizens. As the population continues to grow in record numbers, the ability to provide jobs on a mass scale is a daunting task to say the least. Much of the work that we do planting trees in the desert is with the goal of providing jobs to many who are struggling to find work. Although we continue to plant there is still so much work to do be done in order to offer a sizable solution to the growing need for employment. However, every tree that is planted gets us closer to this goal, and it is because of this that we do not lose sight of our vision to see “the desert blossom like a rose” (Isaiah 35.1).
Due to extreme poverty many families within the nation of Israel are struggling. Some have been forced to place their children into the care of foster programs.
In July of last year the Jerusalem Post shared these stunning statistics…
“The ministry spends some NIS 230 million every year on the foster care system, and some NIS 2.5 million on emergency shelters for children under the age of six. These placements are temporary assignments for children taken out of the homes of their biological parents, in an effort to provide the necessary environment for emotional, physical, educational and social growth.”
This report does not take in to consideration the hundreds of thousands of children above the age of six who are deeply in need of a safe place to call home.
My Olive Tree endeavors to not only provide homes for young children in need, but also for young adults who have recently been removed from the safety net of the foster care program because they have turned 18. Many of these young men and women have no extended family to help them get on their feet. Our Safe House Project works to bridge that gap between juvenile and adult, by offering homes with supportive house parents who help provide the emotional support needed as young men and women make this stressful transition.
We are constantly humbled by the incredible testimonies and positive reports we are hearing from these homes. The proceeds from the harvest of the My Olive Tree groves, planted by generous supporters like you, continues this important work in the lives of children living in the nation of Israel.
There is still more work to be done…
