We know that God’s promises are everlasting covenants. When His Word goes out, it will accomplish that for which it was intended. Just as Jesus was the Word made flesh, He accomplished His mission on earth. And just as God promised restoration—not replacement—of Israel, this too will come to pass.
- “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”—John 1:1
- “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”—John 1:14
- “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”—Isaiah 55:11
- “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.”—Matthew 5:17-18
- “So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God.”—Mark 16:19
God uses Israel to tell His story of how all heaven and earth will one day be united. He uses Israel to accomplish His will of blessing the nations. And He uses the nations to bless Israel.
Biblical Promises of Restoration to Israel | the Land
“Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan… And the Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him: ‘Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are—northward, southward, eastward, and westward; for all the land which you see I give to you and your descendants forever.’”—Genesis 13:12, 14-15
- God didn’t say, “If… then I will…” He committed to this promise of land ownership forever. God’s relationship with Abraham was of covenant friendship.
“And it came to pass, when the sun went down and it was dark, that behold, there appeared a smoking oven and a burning torch that passed between those pieces. On the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying:
“‘To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates—the Kenites, the Kenezzites, the Kadmonites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.’”—Genesis 15:17-21
- There can be no disputing or over-spiritualizing of this verse. It is very clear where the Lord drew boundaries in the land. The territory extends from the Nile River in Egypt to the Euphrates River in Mesopotamia.
Biblical Promises of Restoration to Israel | the People
“Again the word of the Lord came to me, saying, ‘Son of man, your brethren, your relatives, your countrymen, and all the house of Israel in its entirety, are those about whom the inhabitants of Jerusalem have said, “Get far away from the Lord; this land has been given to us as a possession.” Therefore say, “Thus says the Lord God: ‘Although I have cast them far off among the Gentiles, and although I have scattered them among the countries, yet I shall be a little sanctuary for them in the countries where they have gone.’” Therefore say, “Thus says the Lord God: ‘I will gather you from the peoples, assemble you from the countries where you have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel.’”’”—Ezekiel 11:14-17
- If the Lord said scatter, then they were to be scattered. There is no denying this has happened to the Jewish people. He also said He will gather, again, and God’s Word has not failed. They are officially an independent nation today.
- At the same time, if you consider the verses about the land borders, there is obvious territory that belongs to Israel that is not yet under Israeli rule. If we believe the promises of God and see how His hand has been at work throughout the generations to restore all things to Him, we must rest upon this hope and this commitment that He has made.
And now we have a choice. A choice to pray, support, stand beside, and protect those whom God has graciously grafted the Church into—the Jewish people.
How Does the Lord Accomplish His Will?
The Bible tells us exactly how this will happen. In the Old Testament, Amos spoke of the future fulfillment of environmental prophecy.
Through his words, we read that Israel’s land has rich roots that will be rebuilt. Amos didn’t suggest Israel will be wiped clean and replaced, but rather that the remnants will be repaired.
“‘On that day I will raise up the tabernacle of David, which has fallen down, and repair its damages; I will raise up its ruins, and rebuild it as in the days of old; that they may possess the remnant of Edom, and all the Gentiles who are called by My name,’ says the Lord who does this thing.”—Amos 9:11-12
How wonderful that God uses people like you to accomplish His will!
The word root means more than just a piece of the plant that is in the ground. We are rooted in Israel through faith. We are rooted in the Promised Land through our heritage. We can put roots in the Holy Land with an olive tree.
Understanding this is the will of God—that prophecy will come to pass—should compel us to join together for Israel. These things must come to pass before the return of the Messiah. Could we, as Believers, unite in vision and purpose to hasten Messiah’s reign?
It is true no one knows the day or hour, but we do know the season. We do know God’s vision, and we do know our assignment.
“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: ‘May they prosper who love you. Peace be within your walls, prosperity within your palaces.’”—Psalm 122:6-7
