Isaiah 35 and My Olive Tree’s Mission

Isaiah 35:1-2 reads as follows in the New International Version translation:

The desert and the parched land will be glad;
the wilderness will rejoice and blossom.
Like the crocus, it will burst into bloom;
it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy.
The glory of Lebanon will be given to it,
the splendor of Carmel and Sharon;
they will see the glory of the LORD,
the splendor of our God.

This brief passage sums up the mission of My Olive Tree: to make the “parched land … rejoice and bloom” once again. We aim to plant more than one million olive trees throughout the region to help bring life back to the desert. But our mission does not stop with the renewal of the land. Isaiah 35:5-6 further illustrates our goals:

Then will the eyes of the blind be opened
and the ears of the deaf unstopped.
Then will the lame leap like a deer
and the mute tongue shout for joy

And verses 9-10:

…only the redeemed will walk there,
and those the LORD has rescued will return.
They will enter Zion with singing;
everlasting joy will crown their heads.
Gladness and joy will overtake them,
and sorrow and sighing will flee away.

The mission of My Olive Tree is just as much about a healing of the people of the area as it is the land. Through our work, we hope to create employment for new immigrants to Israel and to help the underprivileged find hope and opportunity. Most of all, we aim to bring a healing to a region that has been torn apart by war and terror for countless generations.
