Major Olive Oil Competition Coming to Jerusalem

Mediterranean International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition

My Olive Tree has been hard at work in Israel trying to reclaim the desert with brand new groves of olive trees. We have seen some outstanding results so far in terms of the yield of the fruits and the amount of people who we have been able to engage in the project. Now people in the country who have been helping us work on this project will be able to take a closer look at one of the biggest olive oil-related events in the world.

From June 7 to 14, Jerusalem’s Olive Tree Hotel has the distinction of hosting the 6th Mediterranean International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition, otherwise known as TerraOlivo. The event brings in hundreds of samples of some of the world’s finest olive oils and many of the premiere olive experts of the Mediterranean and Middle East to judge the oils as part of an esteemed international panel.

The event was created by Moses A. Spak and Raul C. Castellani, a chemical engineer from Argentina, as a way to pay homage to the region where olive oil cultivation was initially born thousands of years ago.

About 270 samples of olive oil had already arrived to Jerusalem as of May 26, with June 7 being the deadline. Last year’s competition fielded a total of 407 samples, and the panel’s goal is to exceed that number this year, despite samples from Italy having significantly decreased due to this year’s extremely tough harvest caused by tree disease and parasites.

In addition to the olive oil competition and judging, the event also offers a chance for people to tour local olive groves, wineries and landmarks throughout the Holy Land, as well as the Dead Sea, Old Town Jerusalem and Mount Zion.

It’s certain to be a big event for the city of Jerusalem, and we’re looking forward to having so many olive oil experts arriving in the city!

Our Mission

Our mission is to create a partnership between the Evangelical community and the nation of Israel; this partnership will produce employment, income, and revenue for humanitarian aid projects in Israel. We envision the planting of one-million olive trees over the next seven years. This relationship was prophesied in the Bible centuries ago, that the foreigners and strangers (those not of Jewish descent) would help rebuild the walls of Israel and cause the desert to bloom (Isa 35:1). Among other things, this reforestation is an environmental blessing for the entire region. May all who participate in this project be blessed body, soul and spirit; it is time for you to take root in Israel!
