My Olive Tree: The Importance of the Kidron Valley

The Kidron Valley makes numerous appearances in the Bible. In John 18:1 we read that Jesus crossed the Kidron Valley after praying preceding His arrest. In the Old Testament, we read in both 1st and 2nd Kings, that idols were destroyed by kings in the Kidron Valley.

Where is the Kidron Valley? This historical area is primarily located east of Old City Jerusalem, between that and the foot of the Mount of Olives. Because the Temple in Jerusalem was the city’s highest point, Jesus was well able to see it from the Kidron Valley as He crossed.

The history of God’s people tells us that the Kidron Valley was used in the cleansing processes for the Israelites. Most of the year this piece of land laid dry, but during the rainy season a river flowed through it. As mentioned in 2 Chronicles 29:16, King Hezekiah was well aware that the Kidron Valley provided an avenue to carry idols and “everything unclean found in the Temple of the Lord” away from Jerusalem.

Why does God cleanse creation? He does this to purify His people and the land, to allow His abundant life-giving properties to consume us and His land. His design is that this once barren place be restored and the desert will bloom. From this burst of beauty and blossom, others will see the glory of the Lord.

“The desert and the parched land will be glad, the wilderness will rejoice and blossom… they will see the glory of the Lord and the splendor of our God.”—Isaiah 35:1-2

This is a magnificent way to witness to those in Israel and support restoration.

As Romans 8:19 says, “…creation waits in eager expectation…” This Holy ground has been cleansed and is in the process of being restored as it eagerly awaits the coming Messiah!

When you stop and think about how the blood of Yeshua has cleansed and freed you from sin and death, and see that the Lord is doing the same for His land, doesn’t this give you a renewed hope?!

As prophecy is being fulfilled, you can expect this sacred land to be restored, according to God’s perfect will. This is a place where the Messiah will pass through upon His return to earth. Can you imagine the beauty the desert will behold? As a Believer in the God of the Bible, this is something we, along with all creation, eagerly await!

Through My Olive Tree, you can help rebuild the Valley of the Kings and restore the olive groves and agriculture of the Kidron Valley. With this unique opportunity comes the hope and promise of Jeremiah 3:17…

“…Jerusalem shall be called The Throne of the Lord, and all the nations shall be gathered to it…”

There are several ways to get involved with this blossoming project. We encourage you to read more about our Kings Valley Project. As you have been cleansed and restored, become a part of how God is restoring a nation and its land.
