Praying for Our Leaders as They Guide Our Nation During the COVID-19 Pandemic

COVID-19

Today, we suddenly find ourselves in a time that seems to be changing hour by hour. From school and church closures, to conference and sporting events cancelations, the nation appears to be at a standstill, waiting and watching to see how the COVID-19 pandemic is managed and how our nation’s leaders will respond.

Emotions are running high. Some want to point blame, but in reality, we are all in this together.

If this pandemic is teaching us anything, it is that we should all take a moment to pause and refocus on the bigger picture. We can either get lost in the chaos going on around us or chose a different way to spend our energy.

President Trump Entering Uncharted Territory

President Trump is working with leaders in the…

… to determine the best course of action for our nation.

If you are in a leadership position right now, you understand the importance of considering all things when making decisions that impact so many.

You focus on what is good for the greater good for 2 reasons…

1. To ensure the safety and health of those under your leadership.

2. So that when things start to turn around, you are ready to move forward.

This is what President Trump, the leaders of our nation and states, and education and health center leaders are doing. They are working hard to keep this nation grounded in the ideals and the strengths it was built upon.

As we all know, at this point, this is uncharted territory. While most of us have utilized telehealth services or drive-thru restaurants, there has never before been a time such as this that calls for a widescale change to what we might consider everyday actions.

Therefore, we must respond with widescale wisdom, discernment, and prayer.

Why Pray for Our Leaders during the COVID-19 Pandemic?

In short, because this is what God instructs us to do. It is for our own good as well as the good of our brothers and sisters. We are not to brawl, slander others, or be filled with anger (Ephesians 4:31).

During this time, instead of focusing on the storm and chaos, let us consider what the Bible instructs us to do…

Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior…”—1 Timothy 2:1-3

Let’s Pray for Our Nation’s Leaders!

If this is what God has called us to do, then let’s join together and commit to prayer!

“We have to fight that invisible enemy, [it is] unknown but we are getting to know [it] a lot better.”President Donald Trump

Isn’t it interesting that our president understands the importance and truth of Ephesians 6? We are not warring against flesh and blood, but against something invisible. Let us all put on the armor of God and rest in His safety.

6 Ways to Pray for Our Nation and Leaders

1. Respect, Honor, and Love

Let us pray and show proper respect, honor, and love towards our leaders in every sector and God.

2. Remember, God Established Those in Authority

Let us remember that God is in control and has placed those in authority in that position for a reason.

3. Prosperity and Peace for Your City, State, and Nation

Let us pray that we can stay focused on what will benefit all, not just ourselves. When we pray for the prosperity of our nation, it helps us meditate on what is best for the greater good.

4. Guidance and Advisors for Our Leaders

Let us pray that our leaders continue to seek guidance from trusted advisors, just as President Trump and his administration report doing.

5. Seek God’s Direction

As our leaders seek guidance, let us pray that they continuously turn to the Lord and seek His will.

6. God Uses This to Enlarge the Nation

As we remember that God is in control, let us turn our focus to Him and allow Him to shape our hearts. As a result, we can trust that He will use all things for the good of those who love Him.

“He makes nations great, and destroys them; He enlarges nations and guides them.”—Job 12:23

Let us remember that He is the One who has made this nation great. He is the One we can trust to guide us. Again, this is a call to pray for our nation and leaders as they guide us through the COVID-19 pandemic.

Let us rest in the safety of the Lord!
