America has had a long-standing relationship with the nation of Israel. The United States’ pro-Israel policies have been the building blocks of security and economic growth in our nation. 

The United States was the first nation to recognize Israel’s statehood following her independence, which was established in 1948. Another first for the American–Israeli relationship happened in 2017: The U.S. was the first to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel by President Trump. 

To Israel, this wasn’t a mere speech but a proclamation that she has a right to exist and a reassurance that the United States will continue to support her. 

Why Is It Important for the United States to Be Pro-Israel?

Does it really matter?

In short, yes. Israel isn’t just the only democratic Middle Eastern nation that shares the same values and moral standards that align with the strong family and community values of those in the United States—Israel has also become a modern-day military powerhouse in the Middle East. 

Is Israel a Modern-Day “Goliath”?

Some will argue that her power has turned her into a “Goliath.” They accuse her of being hostile toward her neighbors and treating them with a low level of morality. 

However, every neighboring nation poses a threat to Israel’s existence. On every border awaits soldiers who are ready to invade her at the wave of a hand from their leader. 

What is Israel to do? In order to survive, she must respond with force. She must have the support of those who believe in her existence. She must know that the United States is for her—that the United States is pro-Israel. 

Unfortunately, these nations, as well as some media sources, portray Israel as ruthless. In reality, disunity and chaos are major issues among some of the leadership in these neighboring nations, which often treat their own citizens as “less than.”

Being pro-Israel simply means you support her right to exist as a Jewish state—that you want to see her succeed, triumph, and grow into the nation she was intended to be.  

Does this mean you want other nations to fail? Not at all. But it does mean that you stand for leaders who stand for her, you honor candidates who honor her—because you see past the lies of the media and you see the bigger picture and purpose of Israel.

We lose a major military powerhouse—one whose ideals are similar to ours—as an ally. If Israel ceases to exist, extremists push boundaries and take over.

1. Israel has one of the most powerful military intelligence agencies in the world. Israel’s intelligence into Middle Eastern affairs is unprecedented. Israel’s Unit 8200 is a legendary high-tech intel-gathering agency that is considered to be one of the most impressive in the world, according to intelligence analysts. 

2. Israel and the U.S. collaborate on the most sophisticated malware systems ever created. Stuxnet, the sophisticated malware system, was used by United States and Israeli officials to impede Iran’s progress toward building nuclear weapons. The remarkable part—not a single shot was fired. 

3. Israel is the only liberal democracy in the Middle East. This means there are many shared moral and social views between Israel and the United States. Israel has regular open elections with peaceful transitions. 

4. Israel is currently recognized by the United States as having control over the Golan Heights. In March, President Donald J. Trump proclaimed the United States’ support for Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights region. 

5. America’s Founding Fathers based the United States on Judeo-Christian, biblical values that align with Israel’s foundations. Our forefathers believed that rights came from God, not government. This founding principle is actually embedded in our Declaration of Independence: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

Honor leaders who support Israel. When we vote, support, and honor our pro-Israel leaders, they implement policies that secure our nation’s borders and keep our people safe.  

Choose to make a difference. Because of the border hostility and media attacks that surround Israel, your pro-Israel voice needs to be louder now more than ever. Choose to stay connected to the happenings in the Middle East. Choose to defend Israel based on truth when others are being informed by lies. These choices give your words authority. 

Make a mark. It is no secret that many have condemned either the United States’ pro-Israel move to recognize Jerusalem as the capital or Trump’s boldness in proclaiming that the Golan Heights rightfully belongs to Israel. Nevertheless, this made a mark. It made a mark in history and it makes a mark for the future of the United States. It proclaims, “Even when I am rebuked for what is right, I will stand for what is good and just.”
